How to Survive the Winter in Winnipeg is a short documentary created as part of the Shadow Cities course at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Architecture. The film captures the everyday resilience and joy of Winnipeggers as they navigate and embrace the city’s famously harsh winter. Through personal vignettes, candid interviews, and observational footage, the video highlights the creative, cultural, and communal ways people adapt to extreme cold, turning a frozen landscape into a space for connection and play.
Celebrated for its warmth and wit, the film was awarded the Ice Breaker Prize at the 2020 Winnipeg Archishorts, a short film competition celebrating stories of architecture and the city.
